QI Project Development
& Implementation

Starting during PGY-2, residents learn and apply basic principles of Lean and the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) Model for Improvement—a coveted skill set amongst leading post-residency employers.  Teaching is delivered via a flipped classroom format using online modules that are then applied to ongoing projects, completed with the assistance of stakeholders.

Here is a sampling of recent QI projects.

  • Improving naltrexone prescription for alcohol use disorder during hospital discharge
  • Creating a workflow by which refill requests from outside pharmacies are reliably addressed
  • Reducing the rate of patient no shows to the Next Day Clinic
