What attracted you to Olive View?

Olive View was my perfect fit for residency for many reasons. Olive View, being a county hospital, stays truly committed to its mission of serving the diverse underserved community of northern Los Angles. The reputation of UCLA hospitals also ensures that the residents would be working with the attendings who are leaders in their fields. This reputation would also ensure access to research opportunities and projects that align with my career path and interests. Education was also a strong factor in choosing Olive View; this program fosters a very educational environment that perfectly balances autonomy and supervision to allow us to grow as competent physicians. Lastly, the collegial and welcoming environment created by senior residents and the administration was something I felt and greatly appreciated from my first interaction at OV. Residency training can be challenging, but being surrounding by such a caring and supporting family of other residents and attendings making those years the best they can be.

What is your favorite memory at Olive View?

My first inpatient wards experience. Being surrounded by a team whom I genuinely enjoyed working with. Feeling the care and support provided by my senior residents and attendings have reassured me that OV was the right decision for me.

Los Angeles has the best, well, everything to be honest. Most beautiful beaches, hikes, food, and weather. Always on the watch out for those random taco trucks and new restaurants to try with my co-residents.

What attracted you to Olive View?

Definitely the patients and housestaff! We are exposed to bread and butter cases that solidify our comfort in dealing with typical disease presentations. However, we also see striking case presentations because our patients often do not have access to healthcare. Olive View patients are appreciative for the care they receive here, and this definitely adds motivation and gratitude into our own work as residents each day. Secondly, the people in this program are genuinely happy and supportive of each other. The attendings all enjoy teaching and guiding the residents. I have also felt incredibly fortunate to have an amazing group of co-residents in this program.

What is your favorite memory at Olive View?

Beach day with my co-residents, our wellness hike in the mountains behind Olive View during didactics, and all the bubble tea consuming during night float!

What is your favorite thing to do in Los Angeles?

Spending time with my family, Hollywood bowl (amazing atmosphere and music!), and exploring different rooftop restaurants

What are your hobbies?

Swimming, traveling, painting

What attracted you to Olive View?

First, the patients. The patients at Olive View are extremely diverse and, as a result, we can learn so much from them. Since we are often the first medical provider our patients have seen in many years, we have a lot of opportunities to shape their experience with the healthcare system and make a big impact on their health. Second, our program’s culture provides the perfect balance between support and autonomy. The residency program pays close attention to the well-being of housestaff. Because it is a smaller program, every person’s voice is heard, and changes happen very quickly. In our training, we have a lot of autonomy, so we have space to learn on our own and to develop our personal style.

What is your favorite memory at Olive View?

Sitting outside with my co-interns/residents, because it’s pretty much always sunny.

What is your favorite thing to do in Los Angeles?

Eat! I love to explore the culinary diversity in LA, which seems to grow and evolve every year. I especially enjoy finding new restaurants to try with my co-residents. There are also so many great hikes around LA to enjoy on a day off!

What are your hobbies?

Baking, board games
