Time-Sensitive Reminders!

R1

Step 3: Interns, you’re over halfway through intern year, but that also means you need to complete and PASS the USMLE Step 3 before July.  It is a program requirement to pass before advancing to R2 year.  If you have not yet taken or passed Step 3, please let the chiefs know now!

Re-hashed: Access your DHS email!

There are three ways that you can access your DHS emails when you are outside the hospital.
Username = Your c-number
Password = Your password that works with Synapse, Wellsoft, Windows.

1) Online email client: https://webmail.lacounty.gov/owa or http://mail.dhs.lacounty.gov/mail from home

2) Remote computer access – You can setup remote access to the OVMC intranet at home by requesting VPN approval from the IT department. The form and instructions are here: VPN Application. FYI, this can be difficult to get working the first time, but after setting it up you will have be able to check your email, use clinical workstation, and any other software accessible through the OV home page.

3) Mobile phone access – To set up your phone:

Go to your email settings and add an account (Microsoft Exchange Server).
Your email address: your dhs email (eg. gtso@dhs.lacounty.gov)
Exchange server address: mobile.lacounty.gov
Domain: hosted
Username: c###### (eg. c052300)

Participating in Conferences

Hi all,

Are you interested in attending a national conference but didn’t know where to look?  Are you planning doing a fellowship and are looking for ways to participate?  Do you have any interesting cases or research that you want to present?  We now have a database of all the major conferences, as well as the submission deadlines for each.  Check it out here.  You can also get to this page by going to our website, http://www.oliveviewim.org, under Resources -> Professional Societies -> National Conferences.  Note that some of these abstract deadlines are coming up (the Chest deadline is April 1!).  We will be updating this list, so be sure to check the list periodically as things change.

Thanks!
Chiefs

DHS email accounts

Hi all,

We are now encouraging all housestaff to use their DHS emails to ensure HIPAA compliance.  DHS is a secure way to send confidential e-mails, and you can safely use it for patient information (which you cannot do with gmail).  Your login is the same as your synapse/wellsoft/windows login.  To access your DHS email:

1) On the homepage, click on Outlook Email on the right side

2) If you are accessing your e-mail away from the hospital, you can go directly to https://webmail.lacounty.gov/owa.

Each of you should have DHS access.  Please let us know immediately if you do not have access.  To ensure compliance, all group emails will be switching to DHS by March 31, 2014.  If you do not start using your DHS e-mails, you will no longer be receiving group emails.

Thanks,
Chiefs
